BEO vs function sheet vs Daily Event Sheet: what each one is for
Written by a hotel banquet operations manager ·
A banquet event order (BEO), often also called an event order or function sheet, describes one function in full detail, while a Daily Event Sheet puts all of the day's functions together in time order. The BEO is what sales writes; the Daily Event Sheet is what the team runs the day from.

Hotels do not all use the same names. "Function sheet" is one of the names a BEO goes by. Some hotels use "cover sheet" or "daily events" for the day-at-a-glance page. Use the name your team already says.
What a BEO holds
Header (event, date, room, order number, client), the four times (setup, start, end, strike), the three counts (expected, guaranteed, set), service style, menu, bars, special meals and notes. Read it in that order. How to read a BEO goes line by line.
What a Daily Event Sheet holds
The day's events, in time order. For each event: order number, event name, room, counts, setup style, service type, times, who is working each role, and a blank line for any slot still open. It exists so that nobody has to open forty BEOs to find out where the 10:30 meeting is.
Which one do you work from?
- Planning the week and staffing: the BEOs. Counts and service style are on them.
- Running the day: the Daily Event Sheet. One copy on the wall of the banquet office, one in each captain's hand.
- Setting one room: the BEO for that function.
- Anything that changed: the BEO. The sheet is only as current as the last BEO it was built from, so rebuild it and take the old copy back.
The line-up card is a third document
The line-up card is the page for the pre-shift meeting: who is on the event, what is happening, what to remember. It is built per event from the same facts, and it is part of the Team plan. See the captain checklist.
How Hotelwright handles it
Hotelwright does not write BEOs; your sales or catering system still does. It reads the BEOs your system already prints and builds the Daily Event Sheet from them.
- Default name, your name. "Daily Event Sheet" is the default. Cover Sheet, Staffing Sheet, Daily Events and Line-up Sheet are ready to pick, or you can type your own, and the name follows through on screen and on the PDF.
- Kept and timestamped. Every printed sheet is kept with its time. When a BEO changes, the sheet it affects is marked Stale rather than replaced, and the reprint highlights the changed cells.
- Packet. The print packet is the Daily Event Sheet followed by each event's EO pages.
- Crew names (Team plan). Names on the sheet come from assignments, which are part of the Team plan. The sheet itself is on every plan.
FAQ
What banquet managers ask.
What is the difference between a BEO and a function sheet?
Often none. Many hotels use "function sheet" as another name for the BEO or event order. Check how your own property uses the word.
What is the difference between a BEO and a Daily Event Sheet?
A BEO covers one function in full detail. A Daily Event Sheet puts all of the day's functions together in time order, with counts, times and who is working.
Can a Daily Event Sheet replace the BEOs?
No. It is a summary. The kitchen and the setup crew still need the detail on the BEO for their function.
Who writes each one?
Sales or catering writes the BEO. The banquet office builds the day-at-a-glance page from the day's BEOs.
Does Hotelwright write BEOs?
No. It reads the BEOs your system prints and builds the Daily Event Sheet, packets and labels from them.
